Default Cam Chain Pain

So, I replaced my cam chain tensioning unit at the beginning of the season as the bike was making a weird rattling sound when I would decelerate. It fixed the issue for a bit, but now it is making a rattle when idling. I checked the valve clearance. All is in speck, so I figured it was time to replace the cam chain and the guides (80,000km). The parts are back ordered and wont arrive till the end of June. I was looking forward to doing another track day, but now my season is on hold.

That sucks. But it gives you an opportunity to address anything else that might be on your list. Are there any bearings or gaskets that need to be renewed?

I haven't noticed any other issues. The bike has been running like a top so far. I might dig around in the engine a bit when I get it all opened up again. Torque everything down to speck.

I took an RSV4 for a spin and I'm sure all these issues is due to her seeing me with another bike.

LOL my bike isn’t the jealous type but I’ve known others who were.

The RSV4 had to have felt like a rocket when compared with the 599. What was your overall impression of the Aprillia?

You could replace your automatic tensioner with an aftermarket one. They're manually adjustable rather than automatically adjusting, but it's pretty easy to adjust - tighten the bolt until the rattling stops.

The automatic tensioner is known to fail over time, mine did.
