Thom, already a man of measured words in person and in posts - has discovered brevity in the screen-handle sense.

Yeah, I never really did like the who diehard thing, I don't even know why I used it, I PMed Alex and asked if I could shorten it to DH919, and he, being the great guy he is, changed it for me.
Sorry for the confusion. I could have changed the avatar again, and really messed with people

I am tackling the same problem, being worried about heat on the pipe. Using a tie down for my laptop back back.
I use a heat resistant silicone pad that is used in baking. Easy to cut into pieces and I have wrapped them around the tie down. Kind of mickey mouse for now, looking for a way to make a tube that wraps around the strap. Having a hard time finding the right glue. |

I just ordered the same saddlebags. Does anybody have pics of tried ways to solve this heat on the straps problem?
clydemule.............I never thought of looking in the baking utensil section at the store. GOOD IDEA! What about cutting an oven mitt in half and using it for heat shielding?????

Take a bungee from where the straps cross over the seat, and pull it back under your tail light. Works wonders, i've been doing it what way for years... Just make sure you have the front straps adjusted right to the bungee doesn't pull the bags back behind the exhaust...

Just got back from my 3000 kilometre west-coast adventure using the motopak luggage all the way. Instead of tying the straps around and under the pipe, I snuck them through the little gap between the pipe and the cowl. It worked great! I did notice that the one on the left side sagged quite a bit -- nothing one can really do about that -- since the pipe makes it pretty lopsided. It would work way better on a 919 or some other bike with 2 pipes.
Still, they performed great, and there's no visible damage to the straps or the bags. I'll be posting up some photos later of my trip setup.
