I haven't visited the honda599.com site in a while so I thought I'd start with creating this thread. I noticed a few familiar names visiting as well.

Here's my 9er. She now has Brembo HP rotors. And I'm about to pursue the '06 599 dash, or similar digital/analog, conversion.

Nope, I'm a solo 9er. . .among a couple of RR and Duc friends is all. The bulk of my riding is from Santa Clarita to Santa Barbara, via Ojai/Lake Casitas. I make an occasional run to the Rock Store.

hey 9nineteen, welcome back!

didn't you win Bike of the Year over at wristtwisters.com? That thing looks sooo badass with the inverted forks! what kind are they, from an RC51?

Although I'm still far from a fully modded bike like yours, I now have Sato rearsets as well!

Hey LeatherWings!
Yup my 9er won the BOTY. Yet, I'm still modding away.
The latest mods are the Pyramid Belly Pan, not shown are: the Brembo HP Superbike front rotors, shaved/filled rear cowl grab handle mounts, and the latest. . .an '06 599 Euro dash/bikini fairing ala Roland Sands Braveheart.

Here's a pic of my 9er's cleaned up rear cowl, I removed and filled the grab handle's mounting pads (I'm still deciding whether or not to put OEM "919" marks on its flanks. Looks so clean without marks.). . .

Not too shabby for a "shade tree" body person. I'm not too fast doing work on my projects. . .but meticulous.

Wow. I have always thought that the grab bar hole covers were kindof goofy; that the back end looks better with the grab bar still in place rather than the "scabs" tacked on where it used to be.

Clearly, your solution trumps all. Awesome. :thumbsup

I agree that the bike is cleaner without the decals, but if they were to get put back on, it would add a level of "authenticity" to the work... like, otherwise people might think it was a primered bike waiting for a paint job? Dunno, just my $0.02. It looks killer either way.

Yup. . .that's why I'm stumped at the moment. I went as far as getting the pricey OEM 919 marks (yet authentic), instead of getting a cheap set made. And I agree, the grab handle looks better in place rather than using covers.

What saddle bags are you using? Any problems against the slip-ons' heat?

DH919

I'm using Nelson Rigg Silver streaks, they're good bag but the Cortech Sport saddlebags are better, these are just bigger. The only problem I've had with heat is when I had the mounting straps to loose, and they slid behind the exhaust. Other than that no problems at all. Keep in mind I'm using factory exhaust heat shields, which do a hell yeah job. I've Seen some carbon exhaust systems that the cans themselves don't get to hot.

Nice under belly. What is it?

It's a Pyramid, from the UK.
Streetfighters By Design, among others, sells Pyramid products.

I'm going to go against the grain and admit I'm not a big fan of the belly pan. I'm not real keen on the "fangs" that hang out there.

I am however, a big fan of your bike.

I'm about to go to 6-spoke wheels myself - and I can't decide if I want to go with a two-tone silver rim and black spokes or just go with all black. I was thinking silver lip at first but now your bike has me wondering. Are your wheels from HRC or late 90's CBR's?

Really outstanding job, by the way.

Thanks. . .I was torn doing the belly pan. BUT, on the 919 there's too much of a gap between the headers and the engine case. The bike needed something to make the elements work together. After researching all what was available, the Pyramid has the best abbreviated simple design that flows with 9er's tank, side panels, and rear cowl. And, it covers that void between the headers and crankcase. The "fangs", as you call them, provides a visual forward thrust and mass. Its raked flowing line, again teamed with the tank, side panels, and rear cowl lines, provides an aggressive stance. Take a look at the KTM Super Duke and the new Ducati Streetfighter. Their psuedo "belly pans" are design elements that add to an aggressive stance, a rake.

The wheels (made by Enkei, who supplies the factory Repsol MotoGP bikes) are a combination of CBR900RR rear and RC51 SP1 front. If one uses the standard 919 fork, the F3 wheel bolts right in. Very EZ inexpensive wheel swaps with no machining whatsoever. ---I was never a fan of 3-spoke wheels. But, I've always been a fan of the all black "business look" of a racing wheel.

Thanks again!

Dude, i think you're well on your way to back-to-back BOTY championships.

That Barracuda headlight looks good; adds a more modern and aggressive dimension to the overall shape. does the '06 599 instrument cluster work/go with the barracuda headlight from an aesthetic standpoint?

Obviously you have a knack for styling and already have your own ideas, but you know what I think would be killer? if you got your hands on the instrument cluster of the CB1000R (or a similar one) for your 919. I think it would totally complete the modern look of your new front end.

Yep photochoped!
I wanted to see how it would look BEFORE jumping into more purchase(s) for my 919 money-pit.
I like the way headlight complements the 919's modern bodywork, so I went ahead and ordered the unit from Barracuda in Italy . . .as well as the Bike Side solo seat/cowl from Wild Hair Accessories in Phoenix. As far as far the gauges goes, I like an analog tach for that "quick read". What do you think of this?:

I hear you JBarx. . .I have a soft spot for the classic round headlight. In fact, I decided NOT to change the 919's OEM gauges long ago, so that I can go back to the round headlight when I get sentimental with the classic look. I just wanted to get opinions on the Koso dash in response to leatherwings. ---The Barracuda unit is on the plane.

Tell you what, Koso has some "digital round" gauges that I was seriously considering back when I had money.

I too like the round headlight with analog guages. but i'm not certain the round analog guages go with the modern, sharper lines of the Barracuda.

Do they have any photos of the RX-1N instrument cluster on any bikes? I think a non-studio photo of it actually on a bike might look better

The 919's out-of-the box visual design is a hybrid. . .10% old school (with its classic design round analog gauges and round headlight. . .and the oberon bar end mirrors) and 90% modern sportbike (everything else. . . aero edges of the tank, the rear cowl, fender, etc. providing a flowing visual). With the Barracuda. . .5% old school and 95% modern. ---The CB1000R, 100% modern. . .naked!

I don't mind the Barracuda headlamp, that's actually pretty cool.... it's just that Koso RX-1N looks... I dunno, kinda crappy.

Is there any way to graft a flyscreen to that lamp... or hell, you could probably buy a gauge from a 2007+ Euro Hornet that would gel a little bit better with the 'Cuda.

I'm not trying too hard to push the 919 out the garage. It's still for sale in a bad economic climate to sell a motorcycle (to sell anything). It's the very reason how I got an excellent deal on this highly modded Ducati 998. There have been many interested parties who have all the right to low ball. I may end up keeping her along with the Italian mistress (my second).

I was, but now that I got an undertail and a pipe coming... probably not. I was entertaining the idea of trying to work out a deal for shipping (About $500+/-) but I think I'd rather just run with mine... that way it's my work and I'm not buying someone else's. Nice as that work may be. Ya know?

yep. . .as we all know, the 919 is such a GREAT all-around bike! And, my 9er always grabs attention wherever it goes.
But that's how I am. . .I build up bikes (and cars) for the love and fun, and then sell them, to the buyer's delight. They get what they want at far less if they were to do it themselves.

I totally understand. . .I was feeling that way when I was shopping for the 998, especially a highly modded example. It just wouldn't be "MINE". BUT. . .for the money, there is NO WAY I could've replicate what the seller did to the 998 I just bought. . . .I did some shopping already to make it "MINE": Brembo narrow-band SBK rotors, NCR billet sprocket carrier, clear double-bubble, integrated rear turn signals, Vortex cross-drilled countershaft sprocket, billet 12-point rear axle nuts, gold anodized billet clutch pressure plate/stainless steel pressure springs with black anodized keepers, etc. . .now I can call it "MINE". LOL!!
