I've seen this video linked from http://pnwriders.com website the guy is an ex flat tracker from the northwest area he races and apparently in this video he's just kinda screwing around with backing it in and drifting into corners. Very impressive riding though.

I got to see guys doing this kind of stuff when I was at the track. There were actual races going on the main course. Damn, were they fast!

Alex, are you trying to make fun of me?! Oh sure, he can spin out and regain control easily at 100+ mph. How great for him. WHATEVER! Like I care!

What's funny to me is that when you "countersteer" in a car you are essentially breaking the rear wheels from the pavement and turning into the skid. If you ever see one of those races with the midget cars on the dirt tracks they are basically countersteering around the entire track. Yup, I've done it in a car, if I ever try it on a bike I hope you guys send me your best as I recuperate in a hospital somewhere. WOW. Pretty fancy riding.

Also note there is a difference when he 'Backs it into a corner' vs when he powerslides out of a corner. Its a totally different technique.

Basically the same thing once the rear breaks loose on the bike, no? Give it the right steering and throttle inputs and you can keep it pretty controlled. Much more intimidating to try on the bike, though, I agree...

I've broken the rear wheel lose on the dirt many times, it's a whole lot of fun because dirt is so forgiving when you need to correct for that kind of thing. The one time I did it on the street I corrected for the skid but went into a tank slapper and thought I was going to eat the pavement. I had my 599 for a grand total of about three weeks at that point and was coming around a very slick turn and gave it too much throttle. The technique is the same, you turn into the skid, I also gave it a good nudge with my leg to get the back bike on line which I'm not sure hurt or helped. I held on for my life while shitting a brick and let the front end shake work itself out. But notice how he's controlling the front end as he's breaking the rear wheel lose. He's being real smooth and he's obviously a pro. Basically you are in real danger of high siding if you try that on the pavement. I like to think I'm a pretty skilled rider, but there's no way I'm trying that maneuver any time soon.

Dirt is different and usually when you are sliding on the dirt its due to power. However the supermoto guys to back it into a corner actually down shift and they modulate the clutch and throttle so that the rear tire skids but doesn't chatter and then they get back on the throttle and steer with the front.

The powerslides happen when you come out of a corner and are on the power to get the rear wheel to come out.

One time I was riding my buddies Ducati 749 Monster and I was following him on his new 999 monster and and he was hauling ass and I wasn't used to the torque of the V-twin and I didn't know the route so I was trying to keep up and I came around a corner and I railed the throttle at the apex of the corner and in comparison to the FZR600 I was riding at the time which had no torque down low the rear tire started to slide out on me and I knew not to let off due to my experience in the dirt and fear of highsiding. I just kept on the throttle and guided the bike through the rest of the corner hoping to stand it back up before the rear tire caught traction. When the tire did catch I wheelied out of the corner. It must have looked cool, but I almost crapped my pants. I didn't have time to stop and regain my composure I didn't even tell my friend about it. It was a scary feeling, however I was impressed that I didn't crash but I remember thinking I never want to do that again. Now I want to learn but not on my bike

That video is insane! I notice he likes to stand up on the pegs coming out of some of the turns...definitely spent lots of time riding dirt tracks.

Think that's how he unloads the rear to get it broke free and spinning... crazy stuff.

Cool video, but about half way through I found myself thinking, "When is Luke Skywalker gonna get this stormtrooper?"
