So, about 1pm Saturday the Second I decided to go take my bike for a ride upto the shop to get the 500 (or in my case the 1100) mile checkup. Right as I was merging from I-35 to I-435 some dude in a tracker cut in front of me and then slammed on his breaks (the breaking part didn't make much since as there was no one in front of him) me traveling at ~70mph grab my front break to slow down not thinking about it I pulled it to hard (to match his deceleration) and flipped head first over the handle bars, slid for about 10seconds on my helmet then flopped through the air. I ended up with minor injuries though (I'd assume it was because I slid on the helmet for so long, <3 helmet). Multiple Break in my left forearm (I was laying on it after all was said and done) and a cracked hip socket, and a pretty nasty gash on my right knee (I was wearing jeans not riding pants, this was a pretty routine ride in 40f weather).
The way I stumbled onto this forum is that I plan to fix the bike (as it didn't get damaged that bad either, or so I hear, I haven't had a chance to look at it). Yes I didn't get full coverage, but at the same note had I gotten full coverage it still would have cost me more than fixing the bike will. Though I did get PIP.
Anywho, greetings!

wow, welcome to the forum, and I'm glad to hear that you're still alive and kicking (and ready to get back on the bike!). I guess you're one of the unlucky 0.4% that land on the top of the helmet. Keep it safe and good luck with the repairs.

Wow... sounds like a scary few seconds... how did you manage that? I mean, I would think the entire bike would flip or you'd just lock the front up and fall before you'd flip over it...

Honestly, I don't know. Really I didn't notice that I had been shot off till I was flying to the ground and all I thought as I slid was "Oh man this sucks" didn't really hurt till I stopped moving and really I still think I could have gotten up without the ambys or 4 days in hospital (grumble money). I'll have to take a few pictures of the helmet/bike and post them up when I can get into the garage.

DAYUM!!! And WOW!!! So glad you are okay man. Gear does wonders. Just out of curiosity, were you wearing any pads under the jeans? But anyway, best wishes to a speedy recovery. And welcome to the forum.

Wow talk about a crash. I'm sure the pics will be interesting.
Remember folks "squeeze" the break not "grab" or "pull"
Heal up and good luck on fixing her up.

Sorry to hear about the accident, and a speedy recovery to you!
My condolences to a fellow rider. It sounds like you may have even lucked out a bit, glad to hear you were wearing gear. Good luck with the recovery!
WoW!
Sure glad to know you're relatively alright after such an accident. A tough cookie indeed.
A couple words of advice:
- Protect all the skin you'd like to keep
- Look into insurance - many of us pay $500 - $700 for full coverage
I hope you get well soon.

Yeowch. Glad to hear you're alright!
When on the bike, I spend a lot of my time imagining the worst possible thing a nearby driver could do and playing in advance what I'd do. But man, that's a crappy scenario and real tough to anticipate. Makes you want to smack the guy and say, "WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU ON YOUR BRAKES FOR!?"
