Does anyone remember seeing those Beatles cartoons on TV? I just bought them all on DVD for my eight-year old nephew. He likes The Beatles just like I do, and he told his mom the other day that I was made of steel! How cool is that?

I vaguely remember those cartoons. I just keep seeing that yellow
submarine.

Wasn't around for it, but I'm slowly making my way to owning all of their productions...

The cartoons are pretty cool. There's 39 episodes with 78 sing alongs. The voices of the cartoon characters have been "Americanized" a bit, but the singing is the real deal. The words to the songs pop up on the screen while the cartoon Beatles do their thing.

Yeah, American Idol did The Beatles this week. I was watching it and thinking, "If any of my students see this, they are going to think the Beatles suck!"

Never saw the cartoon, but I love the music. A Day in the Life gives me chills every time. Jeff Beck also does an amazing instrumental version. But then again, just about everything he does with guitar is amazing.

I still play The Beatles in my work loop and most of my music is a decade or decades behind because some things never go bad. I can go from rap to classic rock to big band to jazz when I'm on shuffle, that's what makes my mundane life worth living.

Anyone use last.fm? It basically keeps track of the music you listen to and gives you a weekly top 10 artists, top 50 artists overall, and 50 top tracks overall, and it shows the last ten songs you've listened to. Basically, it's meant to share music tastes, gives suggestions for new stuff, and gives you a small community of listeners with similar music tastes (which I also use to find new artists)... anyways, point being, over the past 3 months (since I got this computer), the Beatles have like 1400 plays with the next artist at 399. I don't understand my obsession...

For me, Abbey Road is the shit. Period. Aside from maybe Led Zeppelin 4 or Exile on Main Street, no other music soothes my soul and puts me at ease like Abbey Road does.
Pandora is pretty cool for music discovery as well... sounds about the same as last.fm, but maybe without the community.

Yeah. It's coming out on the PS3, XBox 360, and Wii.
It might come with a Beatles-looking bass guitar and stuff!
It's advertised as having EVERY song plus a few never before released!!

I pre-ordered the Beatles Trivial Pursuit game tonight. It comes out in August. I bet I don't miss a single question. I'm just saying...

Now that the remasters have come out, I saw an interesting comment in one of the reviews from Pitchfork:
"The Beatles' run in the 1960s is good fodder for thought experiments. For example, Abbey Road came out in late September 1969. Though Let It Be was then still unreleased, the Beatles wouldn't record another album together. But they were still young men: George was 26 years old, Paul was 27, John was 28, and Ringo was 29. The Beatles' first album, Please Please Me, had come out almost exactly six and a half years earlier. So if Abbey Road had been released today, Please Please Me would date to March 2003. So think about that for a sec: Twelve studio albums and a couple of dozen singles, with a sound that went from earnest interpreters of Everly Brothers and Motown hits to mind-bending sonic explorers and with so many detours along the way-- all of it happened in that brief stretch of time."
Just "wow." Blows my mind.

I bought Beatles Rock Band for my Wii and I LOVE it!
It's so cool playing Rock Band and knowing every single song :)

My girlfriend and I are saving for it... it costs as much as the Wii itself! Can't wait, though.
I'm hoping all of this 40th Anniversary publicity won't drive up the prices on their albums or vinyls. I haven't had a chance to get them all.

You can buy just the game, you don't need to buy all the instuments again.... Although I'm guessing if you're trying to get all the vinyls, I imagine you'd want to fancy full rock band set.
It would be soooo cool to have the drum set with the Beatles bass drum :)

The drum and that awesome bass, I just refuse. I don't have the game already, so it makes sense to me... Rock Band set + Beatles = $160, I'll pay the extra $90.
It would be cool if you could get different covers for the bass drum...

I've been jamming to The Beatles Rock Band since 9-9-9. I'm wondering when and where I can get John's guitar to play with. I might have to order it online.

Haha..wow robbie, conspiracy theorists would have a field day with that statement. The upside down 6-6-6 and the Beatles having Alestair Crowley on the Sgt Pepper album cover..you're not being satanically manipulated are you?:lol2::lol2:
I'm kidding...................or am I?:shock::mrgreen:

I realized this when I bought the Love album and saw the Cirque du Soleil show (the most expensive ticket I've ever bought), but it makes me happy, so I'm still happy to pay him. And I don't see the sales of Beatles paraphernalia dropping off any time soon, so his kids will probably still be seeing regular checks well after he dies.
I'm buying the records at flea markets, though, so I'm not really giving him that money.

Actually, the theory was that the number "9" played into part of the "Paul is Dead" headtrip from way back when. If you play "Revolution No. 9" backwards, I think John is saying "Number Nine" over and over again IIRC. If you play that part backwards, it sounds something like "Turn me on, dead man." Or so the theory goes...

How's that for conspiracy?

Am I just stupid or can you only download Beatles songs? Do I have to buy another game to be able to get other genres?
