bought a large HJC helemt, medium was way too tight to the point of being uncomfortable. The large is just a tad loose, I looked at cheekpads, currently they are 25 mm, and they do not sell 30 mm for the helmet.
any ideas?

better too tight than too loose i'd think. I bought a HJC CL-SP size XL earlier this year. It was a little tight when i got it, but loosened up after a month or so and i think it's perfect now. It had a pressure point on the middle of my forehead when it was new, that got annoying after about an hour of riding...even that seems to have gone away now.

...even that seems to have gone away now.

Because you now have a dent there on your head.

He's right though. I know it sounds kinda dumb, but leave it on your head a little while at the store. Make sure you can live with it.

Because of the shape of my head, some helmets I just couldn't find a good fit even when it was the "right" size. I ended up going with a Scorpion.

Yeah, the medium did not feel comfortable at all, wondering if something like a helmet liner would work, for $11.00 I think I will give one a try, or get a new helmet..ugh!!!!

That's why you buy Arai or Shoei...able to custom fit...

I think for many of us Shoei and Arai are too expensive, especially when just getting into/back into bikes. I found the HJC CL-14 to be quite round, which is great if your bean is round. My bean is not, so the HJC is ok front to back and loose on the side. It has gotten looser over the last two years. I have heard that Scorpion EXO-400 is more of an oblong shape, which I will try out.
Do I want an Arai or Shoei? Yes, especially since my affliction with bikes is not going to be temporary.

I bought an xxl kbc (dont laugh  ) when i bought my 06 in february. Apparently after about 45 min i get a headache from it being too tight on my forehead, and too loose to ride more than 65 without it pushing into my lips.

Well you get what you pay for, so theres $180 down the drain. My parents are really nice, and bought me an Arai profile for my bday, and omg its not even in the same class. Tight fit, no pressure points, and somehow better ventilation with less noise... dont know how they do that. Did i mention it looks like a $500 helmet too? Edit: My bean is tall, skinny and long, like the alien in... um Alien.. and this thing fits great in XL instead of XXL

All im saying is after riding with the cheapy for a year, ill never skimp on a helmet again. That Arai logo does something for your pride when you look at it too... you know it does :idonno

Just my 2cents, but riding is a whole new experience now :ride

Scorpion is an excellent helmet, especially for the price.

There are MANY helmet makers. Not just Arai, Shoei, HJC, and Scorpion. If you possibly can, try on others - KBC, AGV, Suomy, etc -- as long as they have a DOT sticker you will be fine from the safety aspect.

Yep. They say to leave the helmet on for a least 5 minutes and to try on many various brands. It would seem the different brands have a tendency to have a fit pattern specific to the brand. Someone told me that Arai's are kind of oblonged and Bell's are more rounded. I don't know, but your head will!

Many of the companies have different shapes for different models. Some Arais are more round, some are more oval... don't remember which models were which. Scorpion told me the exo-400 was slightly different from the exo-700, but I don't remember how. I think they said the 700 was more round.
