Well, I've been really debating trading in the 599 for an 06 F4i. But then, when I go ride my Hornet I just love it. I also love the naked look. And, I don't really want to spring the additional 4-5 grand after trade on an F4i.

So, I went riding all day today and realized again (as usual) that I really love my Hornet. I love the naked look. Then I realized I don't need a new bike, I just need something "different." Here come the mods...

First, I'm going to be taking all painted parts of my bike to get painted in 2 weeks. Have an appointment already with a shop to get painted. The bike will go from yellow to a Toyota/Lexus Pearl Metallic white. It's the "new pearl white" that all the car manufacturers seem to be doing this year. The "599" stickers on the tail will turn in to pearl Silver euro "Hornet" stickers. The "honda" wings on the gas tank are going to turn in to something pearl silver...just not sure what yet. With that being said, the bike is going to have a pearl white/silver/black theme.

So, I spent last night and this morning online spending money. Here's what I've bought so far...

1. Suburban machinery bar
2. Manic Salamander Bar ends
3. Silver Pazzo levers with black adjusters, shorty brake, long clutch
4. Rizoma grab rail caps
5. Rizoma Silver Dynamic Mirrors with adapters
6. Progrip #700 SCS Black grips (hope I can change the throttle grip one without problems.
7. TCP Rear Hugger
8. Galfer SS brake lines
9. Hafer-tuning gas cap (from germany)

Still trying to decide on exhausts. I want the dual MiVV for looks, but I can't find any sound clips. I really want to hear them before I buy them. And, I need to see images of the "small" duals versus the "regular size" duals. I'm contacting PJ's Parts to see if they can get me some photos of the two differnet sizes.

Also going to do a fork upgrade as soon as I can decide exactly what I want and find out how much Ron Ayers will charge me to do the work...unless there is someone here in NORTH CAROLINA that wants to volunteer to help me.

Have I missed anything????

Still trying to find a nice looking set of front turn signals. I don't like the Rizoma stuff. I don't like the small long triangular stuff. I need something a bit more conservative...I'll find them soon...I hope.

I believe the MIVV site shows both sizes of the Duals. Could be wrong there, though.

For the TCP hugger, did you get one in black? I've been looking at huggers lately and they used to offer it in color-matched yellow. Alas, no more.

Definitely wrong. The difference in color was throwing me off.

I ordered the hugger in silver. If you read back up, based on the colors I'm going with on my bike, I figured I would see how the silver hugger would look with the pearl white. If not cool...then I'll just have it repainted to pearl white.

Definitely RIGHT! Those are the two different sizes. I LOVE the small ones...

Your killing me. I love white Hornets!

I'm not sure I've noticed the new Lexus pearl white. Does it lean torwards a silver more than a gold hue? One thing I always liked about (& the only thing) Cadallac's White Diamond color was that it was a silver-based pearl white instead of a gold/tan white like Infinity used to use. The White Diamond color looked pure, while some of the others looked a bit "dirty" for lack of a better term. Since you're using silver logos, I suspect the new Toyota/Lexus pearl white is similar to the color I mentioned. I may be a copycat someday, but I was thinking blue logos on white like Triumph does on the Speed Triple.

Yes, the Lexus white pearl is almost identical to the Cadillac white pearl only the lexus is a tad more white...more...brilliant white if you ask me.

I had also considered blue logos like Triumps stuff. I finally decided on silver because I like the 07 CBR 600 RR white/silver/black color scheme.

I'm so excited about this. I needed this to keep me from doing something stupid like buying an F4i that I don't think I would have been as happy with in the end....

Besides...my bike is gonna look killer when I'm done.

I just emailed PJ'sparts to see if he will order the dual small oval MiVV exhaust. Now I wonder if I'm going to have to rejet? I planned on rejet later on anyway but was going to try and spare the expense right now. Ron Ayers is right around the corner from my house. They do really good dyno tunes from what I hear...so it's all good. Those guys have been trying to get me to do an exhaust/rejet/dyno tune for a few months now...

Sounds great, post photos or we can meet somewhere in the mountains or on your next Dragon trip and I'll take some.

This is an exciting project, as I've considered doing something very similar.

Congrats Moto! Your bike is gonna be sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!

P.S. - If you ever have a choice between a big and small exhaust, always go with the smaller one!

I'm just hoping there won't be any issues with exhaust pressures with the dual versus the single.

Surely MiVV will have compensated for this with pipe diameter or something similar...

Either way...guess I'll find out soon enough. just hope I don't spend all the money on the exhaust to find out I should not have went with duals...

ooooooooookkkkkkkk....finally found front turn signal indicators.

RIZOMA! $37 bucks a pop...but I figure while I'm "redoing" the bike...might as well enjoy!

That dual exhaust really makes it look like the 919. You could always pick up one of those...

Give the Hornet another year or two. By then i'm sure you won't be able to resist trading for something else. But for now, modding is definately cheaper.

Hot damn. I really was off today, wasn't I? Didn't actually read the whole post and I stared at the pics of the two exhausts that I posted for like five minutes and was convinced they were the same size. Ah well, life goes on. Gotta be wrong at some point.

Looks like a lot of good selections. I'm anticipating a lot of feedback on everything.

Don't feel bad. I've just now realized that PJParts sells the duals and has them listed on his website...I realized all this 10 hours after I emailed him asking him if he could get them and what prices would be like.

http://www.pjsparts.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=24_34_190_196_86

The aluminum duals are $612, carbon duals are $797, and titanium duals are $835.

I really wanted the titanium duals because the color looks better to me. But, I'm not going to spend an extra 200 dollars when it brings the total to $835.

I really really want the duals...but want them in titanium but don't want to spend the $835 for titanium.....this is a hard decision...

Ok...I've decided to do a Racetech fork upgrade too. Springs, emulator, new bushings and seals and heavier weight oil. Racetech's site recomends 10w oil...think I'll go with that.

I'm gonna have a new hornet before this is all said and done.

"Sorry, son. We don't have any money to send you to college cause your knuckledheaded father blew all the money on his motorbike."

Just messing with you. Sounds like a great plan and I can't wait to see the final project.

HA! My wife is 50% native american. She reaps the monetary benefits several times a year from the reservation for the rest of her life, plus 100% of her school was paid for. We are enrolling our son in the tribe (must be minimum of 25% native american) in two weeks. He will then begin getting the same monetary rewards sevreal times a year for the rest of his life. By the time he turns 18, he'll be able to buy a new Augusta to ride and a ferrari to drive as well as pay cash for a very very nice home. In addition, his college will be taken care of 100% anywhere in the country he can get in to.

College...HA! Already paid for in advance. I'm a lucky son of a bitch...don't have to plan for college for my children...

Yeah...I can't wait to get this all put together, painted, and take photos to post up.

On a side note, I ended up going with the MiVV x-cone. I mulled it over FOREVER on what exhaust to get. Money was never an issue, though I did hate to have to pay 850 for the dual MiVV's. I considered full header/exhaust set from Hindle as well as Arata and Akraprovic. In the end, I liked the look of the x-cone...it just has as close to a GP look as the Hornet is ever going to get.

Everything is ordered and paid for now except the Racetech upgrades and Manic Salamander bar ends (b/c I'm not sure what the diameter is on the Sub Machin bars). This is all I have left to order...I'll be doing it first thing tommorrow when I can get the info I need.

I'm going to outline the lexus pearl white in a "fade in to" type silver OUTLINE.

Anyone know where I can get some black "HORNET" decals. I've searched everywhere!

If you don't mind me asking, what did the body shop quote you? I just started working with a guy who said he'd paint my stuff for me (used to paint cars), but I don't know if I trust him to hold on to my stuff for a week. Do you know how much paint would be required? I wouldn't think more than a quart...

Also, where did you find a white decal? I've looked on eBay, but couldn't find much. Is there some place I can buy either OEM stickers or something that I can be sure is quality?

MotoGPFan26

Haven't got the quote yet. I just decided to do all this between friday night and yesterday morning. I'm going to contact several places tommorrow about spraying the bike.

White decal? I don't remember saying I found any decals. That's my problem. I can't find any Hornet decals. The Honda wings are easy enough...but I can't find the Hornet decals. Worse case, I'll see if Ron Ayers can locate some for me...or I'll get with some of the guys on the UK site and see if they can get me some and ship them to me.

JHenley17

Another alternative, though I'm sure a bit more expensive, would be to just get the regular Hornet decals and let them use that as a template to paint it on. I might even look a little better, but it would probably be more labor and another can of paint...

Hey Moto,

I am going thru the same thing now. Got the parts during the week. Was going to let the shop install for me but finally decided to put those on myself. I suck at mechanic stuffs so took me whole morning to install those today.

New: Tommaselli Condor handlebar. Rizoma grips, bar ends, and Reverse Retro Bar End Mirrors. Motovation Sliders.

The Rizoma clock, carbon rear hugger, and Coerce 4 to 2 exhaust came with the bike when I got it.

Ok. Here's an update. I have finished placing all the order I could place today. There are a couple more to be placed but I have to do it by phone tommorrow.

As of Sunday night at 8pm, I have ordered and paid for:

1: mivv x-cone exhaust
2. rizoma grab rail caps
3. rizoma dynamic mirrors in black
4. rizoma mirror adapters in black
5. rizoma zero's front signal indicators in black
6. galfer s/s front and rear lines in black with silver banjos
7. goodridge speed bleeders
8. suburban machinery bars
9. pazzo shorty (both) levers in black with silver adjusters
10. TCP rear hugger
11. manic salamander bar ends in stainless steel
12. progrip scs (with throttle) #700 bar grips in black

To be ordered tommorrow by phone:

1. hornet Cup bellypan (from UK)
2. hornet cup rear seat cowl (from UK)
3. Racetech sprins, emulators, seals, bushings, etc
4. go to a body shop and get set up to have the bike painted 2007 honda cbr rr pearl white OR lexus pearl white --- with metallic silver outlines around all the parts where the silver is about a 0.5" outline (on the wheel coverings/huggers, seat cowl, bellypan) and about a 1" outline (around the gas tank) fading into the pearl white with black HORNET decals bursting into silver which will fade in to the pearl white.

To be ordered/bought tommorrow at Ron Ayers:

Motul DOT 4 brake fluid.
New brake pads (probably organic)
New pilot power rear tire (damn it the pilor road 2's still aren't out in the US)
profi laser wheel alignment tool
speak to them about a possible rejet and dyno tune

Steve, the reason the guys at the UK site don't like the HH EBC pads is they say they are very prone to warp rotors...

As soon as more money comes in, I'm planning on :

1. Galfer wave rotors
2. Silver Sato rearsets

NOW....who's gonna have the nicest looking hornet here???

Gosh damn, man. It must be nice! I'm still waiting for my paycheck to deposit (THIS THURSDAY!) before I can even get my can. If you get a rear shock and a taillight lens, you'll be pretty much set. Beyond that, your only other options are all custom work, like swingarm or subframe transplants.

What year do you have? You might also consider sending the wheels off to be powdercoated. If you don't mind taking a few minutes each wash to really get to cleaning them, I think either a glossy silver or deep blue would look good on a white/silver bike.

When I bought the bike the previous owner had just mounted a pyramid plastics undertray...so I've already taken care of the "taillight lens." I'm not looking at a rear shock..just upgrading the fronts. My bike is an 04. I had considered a custom swingarm...I found a place that does them after talking to some of the guys on the UK forum. I'd be looking at about $1000.

I think I'm done after these mods. I'll be happy as can be. To spend any more money would negate keeping the bike. If I were going to go any further with it I'd be better off to just get a new speed triple. What is really going to piss me off is if honda decides to bring over the new Hornet for 08 or if Suzuki brings over the GSR600. I don't think either company will do that though...so I should be safe. I will be one pissed off MuthaF*** if they do.

I plan on keeping the bike another 2 years and really trying to get my riding skills down. I'll more than likely spring for a new Daytona 675 at that point...but I don't think I'll ever sell the Hornet.

Just had to find the point at which the bike is modded well, but not gone overboard. I think I've found the very happy middle.
