View Full Version : maintenance intervals
Hey. Bought my '04 last summer at 4,000km's. I had it inspected and everything was A1. Since then I've put on 6,000 km's. I've changed the oil and the tires (Pilot Powers). Could someone please let me know what maintenance needs to be done? The guy I bought it from didn't have the owner's manual.
I'm also really embarassed to say I pulled the bike from a stop with a disk lock on and she fell over. I brought it by the shop and the guy said the disks looked perfectly straight. Is there anything I should worry about?
Also, do you know where I can get a maintenance manual?

Ok, you should be taking it in every 6.4 thousand km for various services, according to the manual. You're just about due.
I don't know where you can get one, other than a dealer.

Someone has a manual for sale down in the For Sale area. You can also find them on ebay. I got lucky and found one for about 15 bucks.

If i read that right, you're around 10,000kms, and your next service will be due at 12,800. According to my 2004 owner's manual, you should--
INSPECT the following items: fuel line, throttle operation, choke operation, carburetor syncronization, engine idle speed, coolant, cooling system, secondary air supply system, brake fluid, brake system, brake light switch(s), brake pad wear, head light aim, clutch system, side stand, suspension, steering head bearings, wheels/tires, and nuts, bolts, and fasteners...
REPLACE the following items: oil, filter, and spark plugs.

Ok...have you decided whether you're going to use regular oil or synthetic oil???? I've heard synthetic oil is much much better to use...
I've heard it can really make a difference in your bike and how long the engine will last. I would really really really think about it...
Seems like I've read something somewhere about it but I can't remember...
hehehe...

Thanks so much for those replies. Much appreciated!
(And no, I haven't switched to synthetic yet, though I know I should. I use it in my car. Why not my bike!)
