Super Sneaky Steve 08-18-2010, 09:28 AM Yeah... You guys go talk to those dudes about other dudes... Ima see if I can get Gina to f*ck me silly and then put me in a choke hold for a little nap on her chest.
For someone who doesn't like doods wrastlin doods you sure do spend a lot of time on this thread. I think you and DH919 have a little secret.
lilipad 08-18-2010, 10:53 AM I'm super excited Ontario finally is allowing MMA sports to be fought here. It's super annoying how uptight ppl are here. People complain and complain how dangerous it is but really, if they don't like it, then they shouldn't watch it. I hate people who complain just to complain. I just want to hit them. The sport has really expanded here like everywhere else. It'll be fun to watch some amatuer fights too.
Super Sneaky Steve 08-30-2010, 05:11 AM Edgar cheated. Obviously he was greasing or BJ would have won.
yeroC 08-30-2010, 05:42 AM As i expected Couture def Toney in the first round. What a crock. One has to agree with the sentiment that boxers being single discipline save for an occasional exception just won't make it in MMA.
Conversely, however, i think it's safe to say that 95% of MMA'ers would get owned in the boxing ring. What constitutes as boxing in the mind of most MMA'ers is sub par to real boxer's technique.
BJ is a beast on the ground and i am a fan but he got owned.
Super Sneaky Steve 08-30-2010, 05:45 AM I think BJ's real problem is he doesn't have heart. He wasn't really in the fight since the first round.

James Toney, for one.

Toney didn't believe he could walk in there and beat Randy. He talked a lot of trash to sell the fight but in the end it was an easy pay day for the both of them.
Instead of feeding Randy a bunch of easy fights he should just retire. Who's he going to fight next, Butterbean?

i don't count the old guy out. i think he'd still kick both our asses. I'd like to see him fight Rashad or Noguiero or even Rampage.
Speaking of, I see that Ramp is set to fight Machida in Auburn Hills in Nov.. You going?? If Ramp can control himself and if he gets his cardio up and manages to land on Machida it could be lights out. But Machida is a great striker. I really respect his "educated" legs. Don't know if he'll KO Rampage but he could win by outstriking/working him.

Hmmm, you know I hate giving Dana any more of my money but it would be fun to see the show live. Back when UFC2 was here in Detroit my brother and a friend of mine got to see it live. I wish I had gone then.
Just to save you some time. Let me tell you exactly how Toney would do against Rashad and Nog.
Toney v. Rashad -Rashad submission first round
Toney v. Nog- Nog submission first round
So there you have it.

hey, rules are F'ing rules. They should do random testing. you make it sound like cheating is all part of the game. if steroids are legal and are allowed by the rules, then fine... but they are not.
plus, yeah... when you talk the shit out of yourself and also badmouth Lance Armstrong for alleged steroid use, and then you yourself test positive for them, YOU ARE A PIECE OF GARBAGE.
Super Sneaky Steve 09-21-2010, 10:19 AM I think they should test every fighter before every fight. I know most fighters cheat, but if it's going to be a rule they need to find a better way to enforce it.

Damn I miss Pride. Soccer kicks and knees to the head was real fightin!
LeatherWings 10-24-2010, 12:37 PM Ok, i was rooting for Lesnar, but it is good to see a fellow ASU Sun Devil at the top! Cain actually attended and graduated from Arizona State the same time as me...
http://cainvelasquez-fans.com/images/ufc121_lesnar_velasquez_00.jpg
I think some fighters (and/or wrestlers) just have that natural boxing/stand-up instinct, but Brock, no matter how hard he trains, will just never be a solid boxer.
Cain, on the other hand, shows good fundamental boxing skills and real instinct...
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q83/Mattiasblogger/UFC121/VelasquezLesnar8.gif
yeroC 10-24-2010, 12:49 PM I agree Brock is beastly powerful and quick for a guy his size and can maul almost anyone with his wrestling. I was kinda thinking he was gonna take it, but what i saw of Cain looked good and they kept hyping his cardio. He was a state champion like Brock but i thought Brock would be too strong for him..but if he could catch with a good punch or kick...
I haven't seen any clips yet so i guess i'll have to start looking.
LeatherWings 10-24-2010, 12:59 PM when you watch the fight, you'll instantly see how Brock has a glaring stand-up deficiency. When he gets tagged on the feet, he loses all composure and does not defend himself well. His hands are down, no footwork/feet are flat, and just leaves his head motionless, just waiting to get hit again...
you guys know i'm a Lesnar fan, but i'll be the first to admit, his boxing SUCKS... as i said before, i think some people just have the ability to be comfortable and proficient on their feet, and i'm not sure Lesnar is one of those kind of ppl.
Lesnar's appeal for me is that he's a gargantuan of a man, and is like something out of a movie... but just like in the movies, once you find the weakness of the 'invincible' monster, you exploit it and put it down with ease...
it is cool to see a smaller, faster, more technically sound fighter show that those qualities still trump size and brute strength.
yeroC 10-24-2010, 01:23 PM http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=2cd_1287907884
I agree with all your points..
DAYUM.. Brock was definitely not capitalizing on his assets, which are speed and strength. He had NO business trying to play hands with someone. It actually takes a ton of cardio to play stand up games as well..duh. And he was trying takedowns so he gassed out.
Oh and it didn't help to be gassed out AND have some Mexican dude who ain't tired, splittin' ya wig..
But big respect to both guys. Congrats to the new champ and I'm sure, Brock will be back.
...And all i gotta say after seeing Brock's face after the bell is eeeww..

really, you think so? i mean, his grappling looked great, and as always, was world class. but he looked like he had absolutely nothing left in him 3/4 of the way into the fight; probably due to dropping down from 185's.
Kampman would have been able to end the fight if not for being a total moron and trying to grapple with Shields and beat him at his own game. soo stupid.

Super Sneaky Steve 11-22-2010, 11:46 AM Yeah, I thought the same thing. Penn put a smackdown on Hughes too.
I think Hughes forgot what made him a champ. It wasn't his boxing, it was his ground and pound. I think he got cocky after Renzo thinking he was a real "kickboxer" yeah right!
Hughes could have won that fight if he did to Penn what GSP did to him, which is take him down and punch him till the time runs out.
lilipad 11-22-2010, 11:56 AM Machida didn't get robbed, it was really close. I have to see the second round again but it came down to cage control and who was the aggressor.

i agree. that's just how judges score fights. Rampage won rounds 1 and 2 on aggression, and obviously Machida took the 3rd... so 29-28 for Rampage sounds about right to me. Either that, or a draw.

I was watching the fight with the lady friend when we saw Anderson hug him before getting in the ring. we both started laughing ..
yeroC 02-08-2011, 07:01 AM Yea.. uh if i remember correctly front kick is a pretty basic technique learned in the elementary stages of many of the martial arts. Many people just don't see it knock people out all the time but i have seen it a few times. Technique and timing..and luck.
It was a well placed and super fast kick and great display of sportsmanship after. And i hope some of the people that booed Silva at the start ate some crow.
And for what its worth..i'm no fan of Seagal in the least, but he was a legitimate martial artist. He's a fat caricature now but his aikido skills were legit at one time.

lilipad 02-08-2011, 05:45 PM Jones is one to watch out in due time for but I don't think he will beat Shogun. Shogun's jits is out of his league and when they are standing, he will be using his lethal kicks on Jones
LeatherWings 02-08-2011, 11:41 PM Shogun's jits is out of his league and when they are standing, he will be using his lethal kicks on Jones
the best defense against jiu-jitsu is a punch to the face. i recon Shogun will receive many.
Jones is of a new breed. Against Bones, Shogun will bleed.
lilipad 02-09-2011, 12:08 AM There is always a chance but he hasn't faced somebody as skilled as this man. His only chance if he k.o's him or if he is able to stay on top of him. But shogun will use his training against Evan's towards Jones. Stay on the outside and use his kicks and get back to his feet if he gets on his back.
It'll be harder for Jones to get ready for this fight in 6 weeks incomparison to Shogun.
Super Sneaky Steve 02-09-2011, 04:51 AM I think Jon is a little too young and flashy to take out Shogun at this point.

Super Sneaky Steve 02-27-2011, 11:42 AM The white guy is Spencer Pratt. I don't know who he is but I think he's a reality tv show guy. Yet another tool.

skrogg 05-01-2011, 11:04 AM So mad Shield's didn't pull out a win.
I'm going to the gym to work on my super kick today..
LeatherWings 05-01-2011, 12:14 PM I wanted to see Jake Shields really bring it to GSP, but his strategy and gameplan left me completely baffled. Granted, GSP not an easy person to impose your will over, but Shields seemed content to just stand in front and exchange with GSP in most all of 25 minutes. Kudos to Jake for winning 1 round, but that's not how you take the title from the champion.
What's really annoying about GSP is how he talks soo much about elevating the sport of MMA and wanting to be regarded as the best ever, but he now fights just to not lose. He has shown that he is capable of brilliance, but he is so risk-adverse now that his performances have become stale. Even tho GSP's takedowns and gn'p are exactly what could threaten Anderson Silva, I wanna see the Brazilian Bruce Lee put a pounding on Captain Canadia.

By the last minute, I was literally jumping up & down. It was an experience I will never forget in my life, if you can believe that! See Mark feeding from our energy was incedible as I never seen anything like that before. Too bad the Canadian boys I was rooting for (Pierson, Bocek, Hominick) did turn out as wished - I would have traded a GSP loss any day for any of those 3 to win! Their afterparty's would have turned out to be a bit better too. Earlier in the week, I saw and met Couture, Pierson and Nick Diaz at my gym. Shields was training too but I didn't stay late enough. At Bocek's afterparty, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva and Antonio Rogerio showed up. And while we were eating Chinese at 4am, there was Machida and Steven Seagull leaving! Very cool week-end!! I'm sure they're playing up their dislike for one another for the cameras, but you can easily tell when it's made-up and when it's not. Pretty much any fued Tito Ortiz is a part of is a real-life one because everbody hates him. It's really not hard to understand why two trash-talkin' fighters with egos in this world of machismo might clash...
One totally made-up conflict was between GSP and Matt Serra. That was an obvious case of trying to drum up interest in the fight.
This fight will never happen, but they weren't putting on a show:
FOBFBcYXxWA
i mean, i guess you could argue that roy nelson was all part of the gag in recording this made-up confrontation... but like i said... machismo fighters in the same room with big egos = conflicts
Really this is one of the least appealing fights for me. Neither of those guys are going anywhere.
Your statement couldn't be more off-base at least when it comes to Rashad... seeing as how he's a top 5 ranked LHW, and was set to fight Shogun for the title before he got injured and Jones stepped-in in his place. But Ortiz, I agree with. He's way past his prime and the evolution of MMA has past him by as well.
I wasn't saying it was gonna be fight of the year or anything, and i certainly don't plan on paying to watch that fight... it's just that these guys have unfinished business, and they don't like each other. Those are the usually the recipes for a potentially good fight.

dude, I was joking about the Nog Happy Meal thing... especially considering the irony of Sonnen gettin submitted by A Silva. I have tremendous respect for Big Nog, but he's taken too much damage throughout his career and needs to retire.

Well, don't forget, NCAA wrestling is very different from combat martial art. Though that wrestling are incorporated in many combat training, Brock's experience are not on that end of the table. He pretty much came into the sport a non-fighter with zero experience. His wrestling experience is not a very big part of his wins so far. His wins are from pure manhandling and a bit of luck (carwin's fight). He is nothing like GSP and other strong well rounded wrestling fighters. His NCAA credibility alone have very little impact in the UFC.

WHAT!? with all do respect, sir, thast couldn't be farther from the truth! of course collegiate amateur wrestling is not the same as MMA, but it has been shown throughout the history of MMA as a sport that wrestling is one of the most valuable bases for a fighter to have.
Wrestling not a big part of Brock's wins? That's like saying Muay Thai is not a big part of Anderson Silva's wins. His ability to manhandle and control fighters is due to his wrestling experience.
Once again, people, if size and strentgh were ALL it took, Bob Sapp would be the champion of the world.

That's where we have to agree to disagree. I don't believe wrestling is one of the most valuable bases for a fighter to have. Though many successful UFC fighters have wrestling skills, I think its a very small part of MMA. It have always been a COMBINATION of skills that makes a fighter successful, which Brock doesn't have.
Why Bob Sapp can't be champion? Because Bob Sapp is no where near Brock's overall physical conditioning? On top of that, no skills what so ever, not even wrestling. Size and strength alone can't achieve excellent physical conditioning. Brock is excellent in overall conditioning. But completely lacks in the skills department.
I am not saying Brock won't win at all. I am saying his past credibility as an NCAA won't get him far by itself. He have a long way to go to be consider a good MMA fighter. So far, he hasn't shown much improvement as a MMA fighter. Just a 1 trick pony.
dabinche 12-26-2011, 06:48 PM what's up with Overeem...I remember him getting his ass kick left and right in Pride Fighthing. Did he improve that much are all the really good fighters just too old and/or busted up?

He used to be a skinny guy in Pride. He's like three times as big now. I'd say his improvement came from the end of a needle.
LeatherWings 01-03-2012, 06:43 PM I think the Reem is on the juice... but to his defense, he was facing elite fighters in Pride.. and when you're constantly fighting the best, you sometimes lose.
Well, Lesnar has retired. I still think wrestling is a tremendously important skill to possess in MMA, but Lesnar was never able to develop any sort of competent stand-up game, so there's really no reason for him to continue a career as a fighter. But love him or hate him, it's impressive what he was able to do at his age, starting in his 30's, to start a completely new sport with virtualy no experience and accomplish what he did at such a high level in such a short time. Just to put it in perspective... Overeem had nearly 10 times as many professional fights (including kickboxing) as Lesnar going into their fight.
In other news...

Super Sneaky Steve 01-03-2012, 06:55 PM I'm going to say Overeem takes Junior.

LeatherWings 01-03-2012, 07:00 PM well, to be honest, my faith in Lesnar was pretty much shattered when he got destroyed by Velasquez. Showed me then that he not improved his boxing one bit and was still as uncomfortable as ever to get hit. My prediction of Lesnar winning was more wishful thinking than anything. While he's no NCAA wrestling champion, Overeem has been in the game long enough to have sufficient grappling skills and defense as they pertain to MMA...
cychotic 01-04-2012, 07:22 AM Bottom line is Brock Lesnar = white Kimbo Slice. While Brock got his achievements from NCAA, Kimbo's achievements was knocking out bums on the street. :lol2: Both skills are quite irrelevant in MMA by itself...
LeatherWings 01-04-2012, 08:25 AM Bottom line is Brock Lesnar = white Kimbo Slice. While Brock got his achievements from NCAA, Kimbo's achievements was knocking out bums on the street.
Um, Brock Lesnar got his achievements by destroying a veteran and former UFC champion in Frank Mir, a Pride veteran in Heath Herring who had infinitely more experience, beating legend (and current champ) Randy Couture, and defending the title against another beast of a man - an undefeated Shane Carwin.
Look, you can hate his guts all you want... that doesn't bother me. But equating what Brock did in his short career fighting top level competition in the UFC with very little experience to knocking out bums on the street is ridiculous.
Look at the people he faced... this was no walk in the park for anyone who is learning on the job...

Except that most of those wins are by physical advantages and never a display of skills. Randy Couture is naturally 205! An extremely small guy in heavyweight. Just a bad match up in the first place. Randy was used to boost Brock's fans, nothing more. Those fights are nothing more than Bob Sapp freak show fights. Bob Sapp has similar early career records too beating Ernesto Hoost, twice. Does that give him the good MMA fighter credit?

Yeah, I just heard about this. Well, like they say, your judgement is the 1st thing to go when you're under the influence. At least he didn't kill anybody...
I think will be a pretty good lesson for this 24 yr old kid tho, I think his meteoric rise (Goldie-ism there ;) ) to fame and self-perception of invincibility will surely require some reflecting upon.
on that note, who else is pumped for Dan Henderson vs Bones? I'm gonna root for Hendo, as I'm sure everyone else will, but I think ultimately Bones is too dangerous and just entering the ascension of his prime.

cychotic 05-19-2012, 02:47 PM Jones is like a young Anderson Silva, great skills and perfect physique for the weight class. He is continuing to rise. It will be hard to beat him. But then again, anyone can get KTFO by Hendo though. Especially when they talk trash. Like so...

It will be a great fight. Love both of them...
Super Sneaky Steve 05-19-2012, 03:59 PM I'm rooting for the old vet Hendo too.
